Mr. Chan is a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. He focuses his practice on the acquisition and enforcement of intellectual property (IP) rights for a variety of Fortune 500 and emerging technology companies involved in diverse fields such as financial transaction systems, computers, software, logistical systems, telecommunications, textiles, "green and clean" environmental technologies, power generation and controls, electro-mechanical devices, medical devices, and business methods.  Mr. Chan serves on Sutherland's Pro Bono & Public Service and Marketing Committees.

Mr. Chan's practice includes all aspects of IP law, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, IP portfolio management and strategy, IP procurement, opinions, due diligence, reexaminations, licensing and related litigation.  Mr. Chan also advises clients with regard to protecting and enforcing IP in other countries and regions including China, Japan, and Europe.

Mr. Chan received his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to attending law school, he was an engineer with Babcock & Wilcox, working with their Power Generation Group in the areas of environmental emission control, construction services, heat transfer and material science. Mr. Chan obtained his J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law, where he was president of the Moot Court Board and vice-president of the Asian-American Law Students Association.

Mr. Chan serves on the Georgia State University College of Law Graduate Leadership Council, and is a past President of the Council.  He also serves on the Georgia State University College of Law Intellectual Property Advisory Board, and is the current Nominations Co-Chair for the BBA Leadership Institute (formerly the Buckhead Business Association Leadership Development Program) and a graduate of that program. Other association involvement includes the Intellectual Property Owners Association (Asian Practice Committee), Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of Georgia, Organization of Chinese Americans - Georgia Chapter, Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the Atlanta Bar Association.

Mr. Chan is admitted to the State Bar of Georgia, and is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
